Director, Trustee, Leader, Brand Builder, Reputation Guardian

As the sole proprietor of Dot Field Consulting, Dot Field provides strategic counsel to several leading organisations, helping them to craft their true purpose and efficiently manage their brands and reputations in addition to guidance on corporate affairs including governance, ESG, investor relations and brand and reputation matters.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dot has a remarkable personal story of survival, resilience and courage. She is a COVID survivor who spent months battling the virus and its complications, including being on a ventilator for a month and dealing with Covid-encephalopathy and septicaemia.

Dot Field is a certified director and a fellow of the Institute of Directors. She served as an independent trustee of the Old Mutual Foundation, acted as chairman in 2021, and served on its investment committee. She also serves on the board of CEBACWAS (Central Baptist Church Welfare Organisation) operator of two highly regarded retirement centres in the east of Pretoria and chairs the management council of one of these centres. She was appointed in September 2023 to serve on the board of the GBVF Response Fund.

Dot is a past secretary and board member of the International Women’s Forum of South Africa (2019 – 2021). The most significant milestone in service of IWFSA was the launch in February 2021, of a private sector-led response fund to combat Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), at the request of His Excellency President Ramaphosa.

She served as the interim steer of the corporate affairs office for leading pan-African investment, savings, insurance, and banking group, Old Mutual Limited, and as caretaker of their corporate social responsibility, transformation and entrepreneurship platforms whilst recruitment for a permanent Director was underway. In particular, Dot represented the executive on the social and ethics committee of the Group Board.

As a founding member of the Vodacom Group management team (1994 – 2009), with her journey culminating in an appointment as Chief Communications Officer, Dot  built and protected the brand and reputation of the Vodacom Group by utilizing several strategic tools. During her tenure, Vodacom’s reputation was ranked highest in the world in the Telecommunications sector and highest overall amongst all South African corporations, as measured by the Reputation Institute.

Dot has controlled multi-million Rand budgets, has liaised closely with local and international shareholders, governments, business partners, sporting bodies, NGOs and media and has led large reporting teams of both internal staff and external suppliers. She has an intuitive understanding of the sensitivities and requirements of working in highly regulated environments and related compliance and governance imperatives.
